The meme is to describe your friends' fandoms that you're not in. I assume "friendslist", not actual friends.
Andromeda: Hercules is a starship captain. There's this alien who acts like Worf. John de Lancie played a bad guy in exactly one episode that I must see.
Angel: Spinoff of Buffy. Features characters I know such as Angel, Wesley, and Cordelia, but Wesley and Cordelia don't suck. Also features characters I don't know like Gunn and Connor and Doyle and Lilah. Gina Torres played a villain who was a goddess/angel sent to brainwash humanity into being good. Faith was in it. Spike is coming back to it.
Babylon 5: I saw the show and all the spinoffs and read the tie-in novels, but because I don't heavily read the fanfic or write any of my own I don't consider myself in this fandom. However, I'm pretty much aware of everything about the actual show. The fandom, however, confuses me. How could it not be full of Londo/G'Kar slash? And where are any stories about Kosh?
Dr. Who: Absolutely ancient British SF with shit production values (see British) but good acting and, well, sometimes good scripts. Dr. Who is actually not the guy's name, he's the Doctor, he's a Time Lord and whenever he dies he gets a new body, thus allowing the show to run for 27 years. He usually has a sidekick. Romana was another Time Lord and she was cool. Adric is hated by many. The best villains are the Master and the Rani. The Daleks would be cool if they could go up stairs. The most famous incarnation of the Doctor wore a long scarf and asked people if they wanted a jelly baby. I don't know whether that's a jelly bean or a gummi candy. I thought the fandom was dominated by male writers but I might be wrong.
JAG: Huh?
La Femme Nikita: There's this girl, see, and she's been forced into being an assassin for the government. And there's this guy and he's her handler. Um. Beyond that, don't ask me.
LOTR: There are exactly two kinds of LOTR fanfic writers: squeely fangirls who write badfic about Mary Sue joining the Fellowship/Legolas and Aragorn getting it on, and reasonable, normal people who write decent fanfic based on *far* more focused attention on the Silmarillion than I would ever have the patience to manage. Slash is not unheard of among the goodfic writers but is, obviously, better done than by the badfic writers. I have seen the movies and read the books, albeit about twenty years ago, so I know the plot and most of the characters.
Press Club: Huh?
Quantum Leap: Rumor has it that Scott Bakula did not suck when he was on QL. Having only seen him as Archer I find this hard to comprehend. He played a guy named Sam who used to jump into other people's bodies, and was advised by Al, a fellow scientist and friend who appeared to him holographically. Famous for saying "Oh boy."
RPS, boyband: All about pretty real boys who sing having sex with each other. Apparently, has no logic or rationality to it-- characters are frequently written as aliens, or women, or switch bodies, or live in 17th century France, for no good reason. The actual real people involved, who are aware of this, think it's funny, but I can't get past the fact that it's REAL PEOPLE.
RPS, LOTR: Full of psychos who genuinely believe that yes, Dominic what's-his-face and Elijah Wood, or Orlando Bloom and Viggo Mortensen, or whoever, are GENUINELY IN LOVE WITH EACH OTHER. Despite the fact that Ian McKellan has said none of them are gay. And he would know. I find this fandom amoral and frightening-- at least the boybands agreed to objectify their real names as public and somewhat constructed personas. Actors play other people, that's why they're actors. Apparently most LOTR RPSers know that no, these people aren't *really* having gay sex, but their opinion of the nutcases among them is "jeez, we have some nutcases" and not "maybe this fandom is a big draw for nutcases."
Sentinel: There's Jim and there's Blair. Jim has all these super-senses and uses them to fight crime. Blair helps him. All of the fanfic is slash, Jim/Blair. For some reason making Blair an incredible wuss is very popular. Based on the fan art I have seen, Blair is the Ugliest Man Alive, making this fandom pretty much impossible for me to get into.
Stargate SG-1: Sam is a woman. Jack is a man and he's played by Richard Dean Anderson, but has come to look shockingly like Kent McCord, the guy who plays John Crichton's dad and also a wormhole alien in Farscape. Daniel is a man and he is beloved by the fandom. John de Lancie played a bad guy, who's dead now. Some black guy plays a good guy alien but I don't know the character's name. There is no main villain who's pretty like Jaye Davidson and that's why I never bothered to get into the show. Though I may watch the John de Lancie eps.
Star Wars: Apparently it's all about the hot man-man love between Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi. Whatever happened to Luke and Han? (They still seem to be out there but not nearly as popular on the Net.) For some reason making Obi-Wan a big wuss or a slave is very popular. So is making fun of the Sith, or writing stories about the Sith. Like B5, I am familiar with the movies and some of the tie-in novels, but don't participate in the fandom.
X-Files: It's all about sex with Mulder. Mulder has sex with Krycek, Mulder has sex with Skinner, Mulder has sex with Scully. Mulder has relatively little sex with the Cigarette Smoking Man, Deep Throat, or Mr. X. Mulder/Scully is dominated by stories in which dedicated FBI agents have nothing better to do than whine about their relationship, or maybe pick out curtains. "Mrs. Mulder" for Dr. Scully is not unheard of. Mulder/Krycek has a disturbing amount of soulmate fic for a pairing about a man and the guy who betrayed him and killed his dad. Mulder/Skinner appears to be heavy into the BDSM. I was a fan of the X-Files for the first five seasons, so I know the series up to that point. I have no idea who the new chick is, what's up with Scully's miracle baby, or whether Doggett had a personality or not. My major interest in the fanfic would be case files, and outside of crossovers there are hardly any, as it's all about the Mulder sex.
Anything specifically Swedish or Australian: Huh?
More comics that I don't read than I can possibly enumerate: I have a passing familiarity with anything DC or Marvel puts out. I am utterly ignorant of Gen13, WildCATS and most of the CrossGen universe, except for Ruse and Meridian.
More anime I don't watch than I can possibly enumerate: but it's mostly all about the bishonen yaoi. No matter *what* the point to the series was, the fanfic is about bishonen yaoi.
- Other people's fandoms.

There is some Luke/Han stuff out there, we just don't have a 6000 story archive with over 1000 people writing (actual numbers from M_A). Then again, Prequel fandom is falling off in the numbers game, too.
Luke/Han a smaller fandom, but have managed:
1 really good website, Elusive Lover

Several smaller archives:
Luminous Beings:

Lady Angel's Den of Debauchery
http://www.geocities.com/lady_aethelynd e/
The Darth Side

a mailinglist, of which I am co-mod

7 zines (200-300 pp each), and an 8th set for next May, currently taking contributions.
jkb and
walkerminion are the ones to see about submitting to Sanctuary Moon.
(And I adore Slave!Obi/Bondage!Obi fics. Ewan McGregor is asking for it.)

You mean there actually is fanfic to Swedish TV-shows/movies in existance?!

I see references turn up to books that sound Swedish, and I have several Swedes on my friendslist, so I assume that's what it is. Since I can't actually read Swedish I don't know for sure.
It has also turned out that most things I thought were specifically Australian turned out to actually be British, like Lazarus Churchyard or Ultraviolet. However, I hear about them from Australians.

Babylon 5: How could it not be full of Londo/G'Kar slash?
Intelligent fans, that's my answer. Ones who aren't duped into thinking the only way to express characterization is through the buttsex.

Because it *is* all about the buttsex, but it's Sheridan/Garibaldi or Sinclair/Garibaldi or Garibaldi/Zack (what the hell was his last name?) There's also lots of Ivanova/Winters, due to it being, well, canon.
There is, however, rather little fic dealing with Londo or G'Kar at *all*. Because the humans are so much more interesting than the aliens. Except they're not.

Lesbians, excellent! Babylon 5 rules!
Possibly also because Londo has prehensile sensory genitalia, and G'Kar's a lizard. The writers that would delve into that could probably be lumped in with the tentacle rape folks and the bestiality nuts.
Speaking of which - has anyone ever pursued the intricacies of Charles/Lilandra in that regard? IIRC, the Shi'ar have egg clutches, like nurseries where the babies hatch. Probably some WEIRD-ass kink there. *shudder*

Lesbians rule but it's not all about the buttsex? Ooookay. Your biases are showing.
Me, I like male/male couples, female/female couples, male/female couples, threesomes, weirdass combos, and stories where the whole issue of romantic couplings has nothing to do with the story.

Or the serious science fiction writers who think alien sex is a topic worth exploring.
I mean, I recently wrote a story in which a woman went into heat by, essentially, breaking out all over her body and shedding her skin. Not because I thought such a thing would be hot but because I wanted to write a story about an *alien* having sex *like* an alien, not like a human being.
Or, you know, there's the whole issue of emotional relationship with no boinking involved. Very little Magneto/Xavier in movieverse has sex in it. People who are not All About Teh Prettay write about the *emotions* of love, not necessarily butt sex.

Yes,
c_elisa just did in her LJ. Not explicit-- they essentially talk about sex, they don't have any on screen. As well as a hilarious take on the whole mpreg thing in which she points out that Clark knocking up Lex makes as much sense as Spock or Scorpius existing at all.

Yes,
Well, I think it's stupid that nobody wants to write Londo/G'Kar, anyway, but then, I would think that :-). I've seen less than half of the first season and other characters are already making jokes about them being married. Given what I know about later events ... why the hell wouldn't people want to write about them?
If the logic here was 'oh, they don't need to have sex, let's write about the fascinating relationship they already have in canon' that would be cool with me. But the logic here seems to be 'middle-aged aliens aren't interesting.'
Fandom as a whole seems to have a bias against middle-aged men (middle-aged characters, I suppose, but the media in general is so biased against middle-aged women that there are almost no characters that fit into that category anyway) and apparently against aliens that don't look like humans. I would have thought that part of the point of science fiction was the chance to see interesting aliens, but apparently B5 fanfic is only interested in humans and the Minbari who love them.
Writers also seem to have difficulty with sex that involves anything more complex and imaginative than inserting Tab A into Slot B. I guess nobody wants to deal with a scene that also involves Tabs B through F and whatever the hell Narns have.
I guess the above factors also contributed to the total lack of Magneto/Xavier in X-Men fandom for several years - not that either of them is an alien, but Charles's injuries seem to present a similar mental block for many people.
What really bewilders me, though, is an entire fandom ignoring such an obvious source of comedy gold. JMS knows that Londo/G'Kar is funny, so why not take the joke to its logical conclusion? It's so easy ...
"You realise that if this gets out, our reputations will be ruined!"
"On the contrary, G'Kar - my reputation will be ruined. Yours will merely be confirmed."
Of course, now I'm watching B5, it's only a matter of time and DVD release schedules :).

I thought so. It's not as if 'Ambassador G'Kar Sleeps With Aliens' is a headline likely to make the front page, although people might be mildly surprised by which alien *g*.

You and me both. It's terrible to be getting fanfic ideas this early. I'll have to remember to save that dialogue for later ...

This reminds me: there are two episodes, season 2's "And now for a word..." and season 4's "Illusions of Truth", where we see the media's take on the B5 people. Though it's TV in both cases. Considering we also know there are gossipy newspapers in the B5 universe, I wonder what a yellow press journalist would make of Londo & G'kar...

BWAHAHAHAHAHA! *thud*
Perhaps I am wrong, but I believe it was I who brought up the subject of Londo/G'Kar first. *eg* I was just joking at the time, but the more I think about it, the more I want to see someone attempt it just to see if it can be done.

I have no alien sex squick left. For which I blame Farscape and the fact that my favourite fictional character has a long-term alien girlfriend.
Perhaps I am wrong, but I believe it was I who brought up the subject of Londo/G'Kar first. *eg*
I was referring more to the 'ignoring the middle-aged aliens' rant than to the slash itself, although I imagine you may have ranted that too *g*. Next time, however, I'll be sure aportion the blame appropriately *g*.
I was just joking at the time, but the more I think about it, the more I want to see someone attempt it just to see if it can be done.
I'm certain that it can be done, and done entertainingly. Whether it can be done covincingly is an entirely different question *g*.
They're more of a challenge than the people I usually slash, mind, given that the first thing they manage to agree on is their mutual heterosexuality *g*. Most of the characters I deal with are either rather undefined in canon or secretive about their personal lives to the point where they could be up to almost anything.
The prospect of either Londo or G'Kar, let alone both, managing to remain in any kind of closet seems unlikely. Especially since their sex lives are a matter of public comment. Still, I'm sure there's a way ...

Well, yes, I think doing it convincingly in the first three and a half years or so is pretty much impossible. Given Londo's role in the war, I'm inclined to take the mutual hate at face value. I've never been one to go along with the "they act like they despise each other because they're secretly in luurrrve" cliche.
However...
The later part of fourth season and fifth season especially, it may work. May. By that point, Londo and G'Kar have achieved a rapprochement and have even come to love each other as allies at the very least. And to be honest, some scenes from this period make me wonder *eg*. For example, in one late fourth season episode, Londo makes a crude joke about Narns being "premature" and offers to give G'Kar "pointers" on his little problem *eg*. And the marriage jokes come back in the fifth season after being put on extended hiatus during the war *eg*. Even third party characters who have had very little exposure to Londo and G'Kar conclude that they are secretly married after one encounter *eg*.
In any event, whether Londo/G'Kar is possible or not, I think they have oodles more chemistry- even when they despise each other- than any other two-character team on the show. Enough that I will probably be able to suspend my disbelief if someone decided to slash them in a story set in the later years *eg*.

Yes, I remember watching several episodes of Andromeda for the sole purpose of seeing JdL. Since I'm only used to picturing him as Q, however, it was somewhat of a disappointment. But I'm getting used to it. :)
There's this alien who acts like Worf.
Actually he reminds me a little of Avon. Well, okay, Avon and Worf both. Although admittedly this is coming off a bunch of fic and maybe five actual episodes...
